Interview with Kadiff Kirwan for Chewing Gum

Category: News Release

You play Aaron. For those who’ve not seen the show, what’s he like?

Aaron could be described as a self-learned wise owl, but he's not. He's a 21st century man who is loyal and very much in touch with his emotions... sometimes to his own detriment. He's happy go lucky and is completely besotted with his girlfriend Candice.

Do you like him? Is he someone you’d hang out with him?

I probably would hang out with him you know but in small doses... Too much positivity can get pretty annoying.

Most of your scenes are with Danielle. How did you find it working together?

I had a blast working with Danielle. She's always such a laugh on set. This series she kept coming out with hilarious one-liners and making the entire crew laugh. All this whilst being eight months pregnant, she's a rockstar.

What’s it like working with Michaela?

It's everything you want it to be and more, she's a genius.  I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Michaela for years and she just gets better and better, a true leader.

Does she just feel like one of the gang, or does it feel different because the show is her creation?

It's very much both. She has a way of getting you to follow your gut even when you're doubting yourself. When you’re in a scene together she's very much one of the gang, and once you hear cut, the creator/producer hat goes on.

There are so many hilarious and cringe-making scenes in the show – were there any that you found it particularly hard to get through without cracking up?

There are some things that happen this series that I just laughed my way through, episode 3 in particular. Once you see it, you'll know what I mean. Ha!

Do you find any of the material embarrassing to film?

Sex scenes are always embarrassing also getting a huge dildo stuffed into my mouth wasn't my finest moment..

You must be thrilled with how well the show has done. Did you expect it to be such a success?

It's been so amazing the way people have embraced Chewing Gum globally. I knew it was special when I saw the original play it's based on, but this is madness! Chewing gum fans are the best around.
