The Jump - Episode 1 recap
Category: News Release
The Jump returned to Channel 4 last night, seeing six of the twelve competitors taking on the Air Jump to secure their place in the competition.
In a dramatic twist due to high winds it was decided that it was not safe for the competitors to Air Jump live. Contingency jumps were recorded earlier with all the celebrity competitors and the result of the show was decided on these.
Rebecca Adlington, James ‘Arg’ Argent, Tamara Beckwith, Sid Owen, Louisa Lytton and Dean Cain all found themselves facing The Air Jump as they failed to make it down the Skeleton run fast enough. Supported by the cheering crowd live from Jump Mountain in Austria, the six faced the first Air Jump of the series.
In the first eliminator of series three, the competitors needed to pick up speed and jump high. The Air Jump isn’t about the landing, that’s safely taken care of by a giant air bag. It’s all about how fast you can fly down the outrun as you approach the 4.5meter kicker to help you soar high in the sky and reach the highest hight - and stay in the running to be the owner of The Jump Cowbell Trophy.
Former Superman Dean Cain was first to take on the challenge and as no stranger to flying set the bar at 9.35m for the other five to beat.
Up next was TOWIE star James 'Arg' Argent who jumped 8.4m. Louisa Lytton was up next but didn't get the take off she needed jumping just 7.87m leaving her at the bottom of the leader board with three competitors still to jump.
With it all to play for Rebecca Adlington was next but after a dramatic leap was left with a dislocated shoulder. After being seen by the medics and visiting the hospital she was cleared to continue in the competition. She jumped 8.85m, keeping her safe this week.
Next Sid Owen flew down the outrun reaching and impressive 9.43m and a confident Tamara Beckwith followed reaching a height of 8.5m. This left Louisa at the bottom of the leader board and eliminated from The Jump 2016.
The Jump returns to Channel4 next Sunday at 7:30pm, with the remaining competitors going head to head completely LIVE in Snow Cross and the first Ski Jump of the series.
