Kimberly Wyatt leaves The Jump after four-way jump-off

This is not Kimberly Wyatt

Following a big crash in Thursday’s Ski Cross training session Sir Steve Redgrave missed yesterday’s Speed Skating event and found himself at the bottom of the leader board and facing The Jump.  On medical advice Sir Steve did not compete as he has broken a bone in his finger and is suffering from bruised ribs.  However, he was back for last night’s live show as chose to continue in the competition following a consultation with doctors.

The rest of the competitors battled it out, head to head, as they all came together on the ice rink, and in short track speed skating anything can happen.  The slowest skater in each heat joined Sir Steve in The Jump, with one competitor leaving the competition.

Sir Steve watched from the side lines and Ritchie Neville got a good luck kiss from his girlfriend Natasha Hamilton as the competitors hit the ice and prepared for Heat One. Four laps of the track was all they needed to complete. The fastest time would avoid The Jump.

Marcus Brigstocke and Joe McElderry fought it out to win Heat One and Marcus triumphed on the ice as years of roller blading paid off.

Anthea Turner came last in the first Heat and said “It all went horribly wrong. I might not have skated well today, but I will jump well tonight.” Anthea was the first of four celebrities who jumped, taking on the middle jump (K24) and landed an impressive distance of13m.

In the semi-final of the speed skating event Joe was out front well into the second lap, but it was a photo finish between him and Marcus, with comedian once again winning the race. After trailing behind, in the final lap Kimberly Wyatt managed to overtake Ritchie and so the boyband member faced the middle jump (K24).

Ritchie looked confident at the top of the middle jump and landed 11.5m. He said he felt “a little deflated” as he faced leaving the competition after being out jumped by Anthea.

In the Speed Skating final, Kimberly looked wobbly as the men pulled away and she couldn’t quite catch up with Marcus, Joe and Donal.  A swan like fall across the finish line meant she would face The Jump. Kimberly said “I did all I could and I’ll jump as hard as I can.”

Marcus won once again and had declared before the event “I wanted this one, if I win I’ll be buying myself some celebratory lederhosen.” And amazingly presenter Davina McCall has some lederhosen for Marcus to wear for his winners chat with Alex Brooker.

Kimberly was determined to stay in the competition as she prepared to take on the middle (K24) jump and Sir Steve followed her to the top and they both got ready to fight for their place in the competition.

Kimberly jumped first but lost her balance and fell, leaving her with a foul jump and disappointed at the prospect of leaving the show.  All Sir Steve needed to do was compete and land firm to stay in the competition and even with his injury managed to land a distance of 9m and save his place in the show. It wasn’t the best jump distance wise, but it was enough to keep him in the competition, making Kimberly the sixth competitor to be knocked out of The Jump.

On Sunday night’s show there will be a double elimination as the remaining competitors’ battle it out in two winter sporting disciplines, Speed Skiing and Competitive Slalom, before facing The Jump.

The Jump will return on Sunday night at 9pm on Channel 4.
