Category: News Release

Will reigning king of comedy Jack Whitehall make it a hat-trick and keep his crown for the third year running?

Voting opens at midday, Monday 24th November

This December marks  25 raucous years of The British Comedy Awards where host Jonathan Ross will return to oversee the one night of the year when the cream of British comedy converge to celebrate the funniest programmes and personalities of 2014.

And the time has come to ask the key question – who will be crowned King or Queen of Comedy 2014? Exactly who will spend the next year luxuriating in laughter from their comedy castle?  Will incumbent King Jack Whitehall yet again retain his crown? Only the great British public can decide by voting online at: http://channel4.com/comedyawards  from midday on Monday 24th November.

The King or Queen is the only category at Channel4 ‘s prestigious annual Awards where the public chooses the winner.

This year we can exclusively reveal that Jack Whitehall , who won the title in 2012 and 2013, will have to defend his comedy crown against comedy doyenne Jo Brand, as well as Would I Lie To You? captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack,  chat show supremo Graham Norton and BAFTA-nominated writer-comedian Greg Davies. The winner will be announced on the night during the show.

Two other very special categories that will be announced on the night are the highly-coveted Lifetime Achievement Award and The Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Award.

This year’s 25th British Comedy Awards also sees the introduction of three new categories - Best Internet Comedy Short, Best Comedy Moment of 2014 and Best International Comedy Programme, as well as the re-introduction of Best Comedy Film, and Best Comedy Drama.

Previous British Comedy Award winners have included Will Ferrell, Steve Coogan, Sarah Millican, Miranda Hart, Russell Brand, Ricky Gervais, Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Matt Lucas, David Walliams, Sacha Baron Cohen and Peter Kay.

The annual event also attracts a star-studded audience with guests including Goldie Hawn, Nicole Scherzinger, Helen Mirren, Joan Collins, Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Samuel L Jackson, Eva Mendes, Jack Black, Juliette Lewis, Matt Groening and JK Rowling.
