Million Pound Drop app hits over 3m downloads

Category: News Release

Channel 4’s The Million Pound Drop mobile app has been downloaded over three million times since it first launched in 2012.

The free app is available on both iOS and Android. It allows the audience to play along at home and features a premium Play Anytime game mode - whereby users can pay to unlock enabling them to play whenever they like.

This series, top performing app players were analysed and it was revealed men are the risk takers more likely to walk away with the full amount of money when successfully beating the drop. Additionally, results showed those individuals most likely to beat the drop are those in a relationship – perhaps proving two heads are better than one.

Jody Smith, Multiplatform Commissioning Editor for Channel 4 said: “Three million downloads is a massive landmark and we're really pleased that the show and app entertain such a large portion of viewers in the UK. As well as the play along game, the ‘play anytime’ game has also been a smash hit with nearly 10% of app owners paying for this premium game. This is well above the figure of 2%, which the app industry generally considers a great result.

For the current, pre-recorded series, we're injecting live game data into the show, which reflects viewers’ scores. People playing along at home are an integral part of the format.”

The Million Pound Drop app was developed by dual screen technology pioneers Monterosa and created by the producers of The Million Pound Drop Live, Remarkable Television, an Endemol company.
