More4 today announces that it has acquired the hit time-travel drama series Outlander from Sony Pictures Television.

Channel 4 is delighted to welcome the hit adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling books.  The first season, consisting of 16 episodes, will begin airing later this month on More4. The Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated series, which has garnered fans worldwide as well as a raft of awards, including BAFTA Scotland and Critics Choice awards, follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married WW11 combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously falls back in time to 1743 where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world and her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Starring Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies and produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Gallactica, Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams) historical epic series Outlander features political intrigue, bloody battles and steamy romance.

"History, love triangles, grisly warfare and kilts fuel this impressive rival to Game of Thrones" – The Daily Telegraph.

"Sexy, smart and stirring." – Entertainment Weekly

"The reason Outlander works and hasn’t become a footnote lies in the way it places Claire at the heart of the story. Female action-adventure stars are rare" – Sunday Times Culture.

Ronald D. Moore, Jim Kohlberg, and Andy Harries serve as executive producers of Outlander, which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
