Following the success of the first two series, Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners is back for a third series with more dirt, grime and hugely challenging cleans than ever before. The 8pm features series follows people who, by their own admission, cannot stop cleaning and carefully matches them with someone whose home is in dire need of a spring clean. Together these people with such contrasting compulsions will explore how their different behaviour affects their lives.

A quarter of adults in Britain are so obsessed with cleaning and tidying that they spend over four years of their waking lives on household chores. For most of us, keeping our homes clean and tidy is not a priority, but for some they feel compelled to abide by strict regimes and rituals.

Whether it’s the woman who cleans her toilet so much that she can lick the edge of the bowl or the woman who vacuums stripes into her carpet until she get blisters, the cleaners will go to almost any length to make sure their homes are immaculate.

At the other end of the scale are the homeowners who are surrounded by clutter, mess and filth. From the keen collector who has hoarded hundreds of Trolls, the woman who hasn’t done a deep clean for 15 years and the car boot fanatic who has filled his six rooms, four cars and a double garage with clothes, wigs and hats.

The series also features a new strand in which OCD diagnosed mum-of-three Hayley explores her cleaning rituals with fellow obsessive cleaners to see if the time spent excessively cleaning results in a germ free, spotless home. Hayley will be using a bacterial swabbing device to reveal just how clean their houses really are.
