Programming for the London 2012 Paralympic Games
Category: News ReleaseMore than quarter of 2012 has already flown by and the London 2012 Paralympics are looming ever closer on the horizon with excitement building every day, the London 2012 Paralympic Games will take place from 29th August to the 9th September.
Channel 4 began the countdown to the London 2012 Paralympic Games this year with the much-awaited announcement of their Paralympic presenter line-up in February. The groundbreaking and diverse line-up of presenters includes a mixture of experienced and new talent, able-bodied and disabled anchors with two of the presenters in the final line-up have come through Channel 4's 2010 nationwide campaign to find new disabled talent.
Channel 4 also announced that during the Games they will be showing Paralympic action all day every day across the schedule and network with a real focus on online and digital innovation never seen before in Paralympics coverage.
Ahead of the Games, Channel 4 will continue to air a number of Paralympic programmes including the fourth series of the extremely popular That Paralympic Show, the return of the feature documentary series Best of British and new series of short form films commissioned jointly by their broadcast partners, Sainsbury's and BT. Sainsbury's and BT are joint sponsors of Paralympic programming on Channel 4 and will share their sponsorship equally across a variety of programming, the live coverage and highlights during Games time.
The hugely successful short form film series feature athletes from various sports including nine-time Paralympic gold medal winner Lee Pearson, Gold medal winning swimmer Liz Johnson and wheelchair basketball playerMandip Sehmi. These films help to bring Paralympic athletes into the forefront and introduce them to the nation and showcase them ahead of the UK supporting them in the home Games this summer.
The final episodes of ‘Best of British', a series following ParalympicsGB hopefuls on their road to the Games will also be aired in the summer. In addition, the BT Paralympic World Cup will be broadcast live on Channel 4 once again in May and it will be the last multi-sport competition for ParalympicsGB ahead of the actual Games.
