The Shooting Gallery returns to Channel 4

Channel 4 has broadcast more short form programming in 2013 to date than any previous year

 

Channel 4’s short film strand The Shooting Gallery is returning for a four week run starting Monday 11th November, to showcase nine brand new films from some of the UK’s best new film-making talent.

 

The series will feature a variety of work from multiple genres; ranging from BAFTA winning shorts like Will Anderson’s The Making of Longbird and Charlotte Carden’s The Taxidermist, to campaigning micro-documentaries depicting real life stories of miscarriages of justice told by survivors of Death Row, by Will Francome and Mark Pizzey.

 

The Shooting Gallery provides the hottest new talent with a mainstream TV platform known for creative risk-taking. Film-makers including Scotland’s Marcus McPeake (Your Picture Gets Mine) and London-based Oliver Goodrum (This is Vanity) will have their shorts featured in the same new talent showcase that launched the careers of Shane Meadows, Clio Barnard and Andrea Arnold.

 

2013 has seen Channel 4 broadcast more short films across its schedule than ever before, with over 300 films featured through the Random Acts strand alone.

 

The Shooting Gallery was commissioned by Susie Wright, Media Project Manager, Channel 4.

 

Susie said: “The Shooting Gallery epitomises Channel 4’s passion for supporting and nurturing new talent. It’s a unique opportunity in broadcast for film-makers at the beginning of their career to have their work shown to a wide audience. It's also an opportunity for the audience to have a first glimpse at the work of some of the UK’s most promising film-making talent, across the genres. The hope is that these names will become more and more recognisable in the future.”

Future episodes are set to include films made with partnership organisations including The Tate gallery, the British Council and the Kendal Mountain Festival.
