The Singer Takes It All

Category: News Release

This summer sees the launch of The Singer Takes It All, a brand new 4 x 60 minute multiplatform singing game show created by Endemol UK and commissioned jointly by Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment Justin Gorman and Multiplatform Commissioning Editor for Entertainment and Comedy, Jody Smith.

The show will be hosted live by Alan Carr on Channel 4. For the first time ever viewers at home will take total control of a game show, becoming both judge and jury via a real-time interactive app.

Each week budding singers will perform live on a thoroughly unique 18m long moving stage while, using the ground-breaking app, armchair judges at home will be handed the reins to rate performances a ‘hit’ or a ‘miss’ and see the results play out just seconds later.

If judged a ‘hit’ the hopeful singer will move forward towards the Gold Zone at the front of the dynamic stage to continue their song. But if the majority of viewers judge them a ‘miss’ they're booted backwards off the track - and potentially out of the show.

Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment Justin Gorman said: “This is an inventive and irreverent twist on game shows that gives fans an instant payoff. We’ve seen huge success already with second screen apps such as The Million Pound Drop, but this takes interactivity to a whole new level. The Singer Takes It All will be, I’m sure, the first in a long line of audience reactive television.”

Multiplatform Commissioning Editor for Entertainment and Comedy Jody Smith said: “We’ve invented a brand new way of voting that gives viewers instant control over what they’re watching in a way that no other show has dared. The Singer Takes It All is a massive step for second screen and social viewing – the show just couldn’t exist without the audience’s involvement.”

Endemol UK’s Chief Creative Officer David Flynn said: "The Singer Takes It All hands the power to the viewer, with the entire outcome decided via our interactive app. If you've ever felt strongly about a singing performance on TV, you now have a chance to change everything from the comfort of your couch."

Viewers will get up to four votes for each performance and, depending on the mood of the nation, the stage’s unique moving track may change direction as the singer hits their highs and lows.

A great performer could rocket straight to the Gold Zone, while a performer judged too poor may be propelled off stage before they’ve even hit the chorus. With constant voting throughout the performance, viewers may change their mind and bring someone close to exit back into the game.

The best singer on each show takes to the track one more time for the chance to walk away with a cash prize. Can the singers stay on track? Viewers can judge for themselves.

The free app is being built by Chunk, incorporating new live-voting technology developed by Tectonic Interactive.

The Singer Take it All is a co-production by Endemol UK’s production arms Initial and Remarkable Television, with the creative teams from the two companies co-developing the format. The Executive Producer is Nic McNeilis and Digital Executive Producer is Karen Troop.
