Sinitta and Melinda leave The Jump

Category: News Release

After weeks of training for The Jump Melinda Messenger has had to pull out of the competition on medical advice after suffering from concussion following bobsleigh training a few days ago.  Melinda said “I’ve loved it, loved every minute. Apart from the head bashing”.

After missing out on a place in the show the previous night to Joe McElderry, investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre will now join the line up and take Melinda’s place.  Donal said “I'm tremendously excited about joining the show; it's my most dangerous mission yet!” He will compete from tonight’s show onwards.

It was then the turn of the ladies head downhill fast and compete in the Giant Slalom.  Laura Hamilton and Kimberly Wyatt were the queens of speed clocking up impressive times down the slope saving them from the live Ski Jump.  However, despite saying her run felt fast, Sinitta found herself in the bottom two again and this time went head to head with Anthea Turner to try and hold on to her place in The Jump.

Jumping first the pressure was on for Sinitta to give it her all and fight for her place in the competition as she braved the only jump she had been cleared for – the K15 knowing this could be her last hurrah.

Anthea bravely decided to take on the middle jump, the K24, which would give her the advantage over her jump-mate. Cheered on by the crowd below she landed a distance of 11m.

Although landing an excellent jump which she said “felt amazing” Sinitta didn’t do enough to beat Anthea and landed just 9.5 meters, and so became the fourth competitor to leave The Jump.

The results table:

Kimberly Wyatt –53.44 seconds

Laura Hamilton – 55.70

Anthea Turner – 56.14

Sinitta – 1.00

Joining the rest of the celebrities in the audience was eliminated contestant Amy Childs who declared she made up the word parallelling, withdrawn contestant Henry Conway with his arm in a sling and cricket legend and daredevil Darren Gough who left the competition last night. Eddie the Eagle got the show off to a great start with a K40 jump but admitted that it’s been 17 years since he has jumped and he has to visualise each landing.

On Thursday night’s show all the competitors will battle it out against each other in the Bobsleigh. The Jump will return tomorrow night at 8pm on Channel4.
