Stand Up to Cancer 2015

Category: News Release

Channel 4 is delighted to announce a week of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) programming from Monday 5th October.

We’re thrilled to confirm a brand new episode of First Dates for SU2C. But this is no ordinary First Dates; for one night only; it’s Celebrity First Dates! Who will be brave enough to sign up? Programming also includes special editions of both Chatty Man and The Last Leg.

SU2C is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 designed to accelerate new cancer treatments and tests to UK patients and ultimately save more lives. SU2C launched in the UK in 2012 and has already raised over £23.8m.

There are loads of ways for the public to Stand Up To Cancer with fundraising events throughout October .including the 3Peaks endurance challenge on Sunday11th October.

Davina McCall, Alan Carr and Dr Christian Jessen presented 2014’s star-studded event which raised an incredible £14m. Last year’s live event featured Gogglebox cameos from Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Noel Gallagher, celebrity auditionees for ‘Andy Murray: The Movie, a bake-off between Taylor Swift and Jamie Oliver and even an on stage proposal and we’re confident that a raft of famous faces crossed with some of our best loved shows will help substantially add to that amount this year.

Throughout the whole of 2015, SU2C supporters have been continuing to help scientists process important cancer information by playing the award-winning game, Reverse The Odds. The game, which has collected a huge number of awards on its travels, including an online Innovation award at Edinburgh 2015, a Digital Emmy, and two Broadcast Digital nods, is a fun and unique puzzle adventure where the further you progress, the more you are helping to beat cancer sooner.

Ed Havard, Channel 4’s Head of Live Events said, “The success of the partnership between C4 and CRUK on Stand Up To Cancer has been remarkable and we have raised many millions of pounds to fund ground breaking cancer trials. We are hugely grateful to all the talent and production companies involved in this campaign and of course to the public who have donated so generously."

Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’ve made amazing progress against cancer in the past few decades but one in two of us in the UK will develop cancer in our lifetime so we can’t afford to stand still. Our partnership with Channel 4 has seen us raise more than £23.8 million so far which will have a huge impact on our aim to beat cancer sooner.”
