TFI Friday to return to Channel 4

Category: News Release

Channel 4 is ecstatic to announce that Chris Evans’ cult entertainment show TFI Friday has been commissioned as a live 90 minute special that will air on Friday 12th June at 9pm.

The special, presented by (who else?) Chris Evans, will be a celebration of the iconic, anarchic show, first broadcast in 1996, looking back at just some of the brilliant moments in its colourful history, as well as introducing some brand spanking new features.

TFI Friday was at the heart of 90s Britpop, and saw the best bands in the country queuing up to appear and, once again, music will form a hugely important part of this very special show.

Who could forget segments such as Freak or Unique, Ugly Bloke or Fat Lookalikes – just a few of the regular features in the show that spawned a new wave of raucous TV.

Chris Evans commented, “I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since the first episode of TFI, and I’m thrilled to be bringing the show to a whole new generation who have never experienced the wonders of Baby Left Baby Right or It’s Your Letters.”

TFI Friday was commissioned by Channel 4’s Entertainment Team and will be handled by Tom Beck, Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment. The Executive Producers are Will Macdonald, Clare Barton and Suzi Aplin.

The special is being produced by Chris Evans's new production company, Zimple TFI Friday Ltd, and is a tri-partite co-production with Monkey Kingdom and Olga TV.
