That's Entertainment - New Channel 4 Commissions Unveiled

Category: News Release

Fancy winning a paid year off work?  Ever thought you've come up with the next big TV idea but just not quite sure what to do with it?

Ed Havard, Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment, TV Events and Sport today announced a tranche of new talent led commissions with Alan Carr, Miranda Hart and Harry Hill. These new commissions are in addition to the recently announced Alan Carr helmed pilot of The Price is Right.

I DON’T LIKE MONDAYS

Imagine winning a year’s salary on TV, resigning from your job on air and spending the next 12 months doing whatever you wanted. I Don’t Like Mondays (6 x 60) will see Alan Carr give one lucky member of the audience the chance not to have to go to work for a whole year via a series of big scale studio games and challenges.

The studio audience, made up of people from across the UK with a range of different salaries, will arrive armed with resignation letters and at the end of the show, one of them will resign there and then, walking away with a year’s salary.

Managing Director of Alaska TV Chris Fouracre said, “We’ve all had that dread of the alarm clock going off on Monday morning, signalling the start of another working week. Hopefully I Don’t Like Mondays will be a televisual antidote to that universal feeling and Alan is the perfect man to deliver it.”

THE REMOTE CONTROLLER

Ever thought you’ve had an amazing idea for a TV show but not sure quite what to do with it? Enter The Remote Controller; a brand new pilot with Alan Carr in which members of the public are all convinced they have the next big hit on their hands. From the brains of Harry Hill and Steve Brown, Alan will help our hopefuls pitch their idea – after a bit of role playing and finessing from Alan of course – to a discerning panel made up of a combination of the great British public and some much-loved TV personalities, including Harry Hill, who will offer their opinions before a studio audience decide whether or not to greenlight the idea.

The top two ideas as voted for by the audience will then get the chance to be made. Whether it’s a game show, reality format, sitcom, live music concept or even a period drama, no idea is too crazy.

The Remote Controller (1 x 60 non TX pilot) was commissioned by Ed Havard, Head of Entertainment and Sarah Lazenby, Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment & Entertainment and is a Nit Television Production. The Executive Producers are Harry Hill, Murray Boland, Danielle Lux and Mob Dar.

MIRANDA HART PILOT

Havard has revealed he is also developing an entertainment pilot made with King Bert Productions and hosted by Miranda Hart (1 x 60 TX pilot)

The pilot was commissioned by Ed Havard, Head of Entertainment, Sport & Live Events and will be made by King Bert Productions. The Executive Producer is Jo Sargent who commented: “I am thrilled to be working with Channel 4 on this exciting project and we are very much looking forward to this collaboration.”

Ed Havard, Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment, TV Events and Sport commented: "With The Price is Right, Remote Controller and Don’t Like Mondays, we're delighted to have three very different vehicles to showcase Alan's brilliant talents and we can't wait to see the results of Harry Hill and Alan Carr working together. I'm also absolutely delighted that we are working with Miranda Hart and King Bert. I have wanted to work with Miranda for a very long time and I’m thrilled we are going to get the chance to do so.

From topical satire like the recent Alternative Election Night and Last Leg election specials, to big entertainment events like the Crystal Maze, to the upcoming Summer of Sport - the range and scale of programming across the whole of the Entertainment, Events and Sports department is hugely exciting and these new commissions bring even greater ambition to the slate."

It was commissioned by Syeda Irtizaali, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment, Sarah Lazenby, Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment & Entertainment and Karen Murdoch, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment.
