Upcoming Changes to Channel 4 Broadcasting on Older Sky and Freesat Devices
Back to 4Viewers BlogIf you view our channels on older Sky or Freesat devices, please be aware that we are changing the technology we use to broadcast our channels to Sky and Freesat households to open up the potential for new services in the future.
As a result, some of our channels will no longer be available to a very small number of viewers starting October 2024 culminating in a loss of all channels by late November. Sky customers are able to upgrade to new equipment at no cost. All our channels, along with a wide range of on-demand content, are also available on Channel 4 streaming via smart TVs, mobile, tablets and PC’s. There are no changes on Freeview and Virgin Media, plus, satellite viewers with HD compatible devices are unaffected.
To check if this will affect your device:
-
Select channel 104 on your Sky or Freesat device. If you see the channel name Channel 4 HD then you’re good to go, no action is required.
-
If you’ve already lost the BBC channels as well as ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 or ITV4 on your device then you’ll need to upgrade to continue watching our channels too.
If you are using an older Sky device, please contact Sky directly for information on how to access an upgrade. https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-channel-upgrade.
