Channel 4 Interest Survey Privacy Statement
Privacy Policy
At Channel 4, we are committed to keeping your personal data safe and secure and handling it in accordance with our legal obligations.
What personal data are we collecting?
In this survey we ask you questions about your interests and preferences in relation to a range of topics such as food, cars and technology. This survey is hosted and managed by our third party survey provider, MTM London Limited (MTM). We will send individual survey weblinks to each of our users based on a unique identification number that they have been assigned by Channel 4 (GUID) and all survey responses are collected by MTM via this weblink and sent back to Channel 4 on this pseudonymised basis (i.e. they don’t identify the respondent by name). MTM will only collect your name and email address if you would like to enter the prize draw (in order to contact you about this). Channel 4 does not see or process the personal data for the prize draw as this is managed and run independently by MTM.
What happens to my survey responses?
Once we receive your responses, these are all stored against your GUID and combined with the information that we hold on you in your Channel 4 account (such as your viewing behaviour on Channel 4 streaming). This helps us to build a clearer picture of who you are as a user and what you like and, in turn, helps us to serve you more relevant advertising when you use Channel 4. We also use your survey responses for audit purposes to verify the accuracy of the different high level groups of users to whom we target different types of advertising. We hold this information securely on our systems and do not share it with any third parties other than our third party auditors. We will keep the data we obtain on you from your survey responses linked to your Channel 4 account for up to 5 years, at which point it will be deleted.
What are my rights under data protection law?
You can opt out of targeted advertising altogether by logging into your Channel 4 account, selecting “My 4” and amending your privacy preferences. You have a number of rights under UK data protection law which are explained in more detail in our Channel 4 privacy policy here: https://www.channel4.com/4viewers/privacy. If you have any questions about the way in which we use your data, please email our Data Protection Officer at dataprotection@channel4.co.uk.
