Channel 4's Investigations Unit

How To Contact Channel Four’s Investigations Unit (C4IU)

We want people to contact us who have information or know of something that should be investigated.

It is helpful if you can let us know who you are and if we can talk to you. However, we know that this is not always possible.

Whilst no way of getting in touch is guaranteed to be secure we will do our utmost to protect you. We take the protection of sources extremely seriously.

Below we’ve set out the ways you can contact us.

By Phone, Text or Email

Call, text or email.

  • Call or text us on +44 07714 314 227
  • Email us on Dispatches@channel4.co.uk

This mobile number, and email address, are accessed by the investigations team. Please be aware that phone records and text messages may be retained by your workplace or phone company, and emails may be unencrypted and intercepted or monitored.

By Post

Channel 4 Investigations Unit , 124-126 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 2TX

The postal system is a good way of getting information to us, especially if you want to send us hard copies. If you don’t want to meet a journalist in person, it’s the only reliable way to hand over physical objects.  If you take appropriate measures it can hide your identity.  Stuff can go missing in the post though so consider how bad it would be to lose the material you’re planning to send us.

WhatsApp

We also have a WhatsApp number +44 (0)7393 558 101

WhatsApp is a free encrypted messaging app, which means only the sender and receiver can read the messages. The app allows you to send text messages, images, videos, audio and text documents. In case messages are intercepted by third parties, they cannot be read because of the encryption the app uses.  However, because some information about you as a user is stored on WhatsApp servers (phone numbers, certain types of metadata, including timestamps on messages), the app is not completely anonymous. Furthermore, WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, and certain types of data is shared with Facebook, although this does not include actual message content. If you use WhatsApp to contact us, be aware that you also share your phone number with us.

Signal

You can contact us on Signal on +44 (0)7393 558 101

For higher security, Signal is a free messaging app with end-to-end encryption, where you can send text messages, images and video, and make secure voice calls. Signal says it does not retain data. You can read more about Signal at Open Whisper Systems.

ProtonMail

If you are concerned about being identified ProtonMail offers a secure way of emailing.

Our ProtonMail email address is C4InvestigationsUnit@protonmail.com

ProtonMail offers an easy-to-use secure email system with built-in end-to-end encryption.

You can read more about ProtonMail on the official website.
