As part of Channel 4’s digital-first Fast Forward strategy, we closed our Box network of channels (The Box, 4Music, Kerrang!, Magic and Kiss) on 1 July 2024 across all platforms - as they are no longer of sufficient scale to deliver meaningful return on investment. Our strategy reflects the generational shift in TV viewing and involves reducing costs – particularly in linear activities - to allow us to invest in digital priorities and stay competitive in a world of global entertainment conglomerates and social media giants.

As part of Channel 4’s digital-first Fast Forward strategy, we are closing our regional standard definition (SD) channels from 1 July just on Freesat and Sky - as they no longer deliver meaningful return on investment or public value given the focus on these platforms is now on HD. Our Channel 4 SD channel for the London region will remain available across the UK for those viewers who rely on or prefer an SD signal. Content on the London SD version of Channel 4 is the same as on each regional variant – only the ads are different. Importantly, Channel 4 SD channels on YouView, plus Freeview televisions and set-top boxes are not affected. In addition, all our channels, along with a wide range of on-demand content, are also available on Channel 4 streaming via smart TVs, mobile, tablets and PC’s. Our strategy reflects the generational shift in TV viewing and involves reducing costs – particularly in linear activities - to allow us to invest in digital priorities and stay competitive in a world of global entertainment conglomerates and social media giants.”
