Channel 4+ Terms and Conditions
Welcome to Channel 4+!
These Terms & Conditions between Channel Four Television Corporation and you ("Terms & Conditions") govern your access to and use of Channel 4+, including all features and functionality, available via our C4 owned and operated apps and the C4 website located at www.channel4.com (the "Site").
By registering an account on the Site or App and signing up to receive the Channel 4+ functionality ("Channel 4+ User") you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. Availability of Channel 4+ is limited and subject to availability.
1. Who makes Channel 4+ available to me?
Channel 4+ is operated and made available to you by Channel Four Television Corporation, which is a statutory corporation established under the Broadcasting Act 1990. Our postal address is 124 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 2TX (“C4”, "we", "us, "our").
2. Why is it important to read these Terms & Conditions?
2.1 Our Terms & Conditions are important because they confirm the legal DOs and DON’Ts which you need to be aware of when you use Channel 4+. Our Terms & Conditions set out the agreement between C4 and you for your (and anyone who uses Channel 4 with your Channel 4+ functionality) access to and use of Channel 4. If you don't agree to these Terms & Conditions, please don't sign up. If you have any questions about these Terms & Conditions, please contact us using any of the contact methods in the 'Contacting us' section below.
2.2 These Terms & Conditions apply regardless of the sort of device you are using to access the Channel 4+ functionality. Therefore, they will apply whether you are using a computer, laptop, smart TV, mobile phone, smart phone, tablet, games console or any other device on which Channel 4+ is available.
3. Should I read any other information or terms?
Please also read our Channel 4 Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy and Competition Terms. Each of these terms and policies applies to your use of Channel 4+ in addition to these Terms & Conditions.
4. Access to Channel 4+ functionality
4.1 You must be a UK resident in order to become a Channel 4+ User. By becoming a Channel 4+ User, you will be able to access and view content on Channel 4 using your Channel 4+ functionality, on these Terms & Conditions. When we refer to our "Channel 4 Content", we mean the on-demand and linear video, audio, text, images, trade marks, logos or other digital content made available to you by us on Channel 4 digital products and services ("Channel 4 Services"). This includes content which is owned or controlled by third parties which we are permitted to make available to you. The Channel 4+ functionality allows you to watch the majority of Channel 4 Content without ads and/or other commercial messages. Please be aware that for licensing reasons some Channel 4 Content will not be subject to the enhanced Channel 4+ functionality, and may still contain ads and/or other commercial messages.
4.2 To access Channel 4 Content via the Channel 4+ functionality you need to register an account on the Site or via the App, by providing your details where requested by us. To register a Channel 4 account you must be aged 16 years or older.
4.3 You may use Channel 4+ at the same time on up to two devices.
4.4 When you sign up for Channel 4+ you are responsible for all access to and use of Channel 4+ by you and anyone else who uses your account (your “Channel 4+ Account”).
4.5 We recommend that you do not reveal your payment details, username and password to any other person. You agree to notify us immediately if you become aware of or suspect any unauthorised use of your password or username.
5. Free Trial
5.1 Your Channel 4+ functionality may start with a free trial period. We reserve the right to grant or withhold free trial periods. Free trials are available to new Channel 4+ users only (one per person), unless we tell you otherwise. You will be charged for the first month at the end of your free trial period, unless you cancel your Channel 4+ Account at least 24 hours before the expiry of the free trial. We may notify you that your free trial is ending, or has ended, and that your first monthly payment has been taken.
5.2 You agree not to register multiple times for a free trial using multiple names, addresses, email addresses or other means. Any such action shall be a breach of these Terms & Conditions and may result in the termination of your Channel 4+ Account.
6. Billing
6.1 You will be charged for Channel 4+ each month using the payment method provided when you first subscribed or set up your Channel 4+ Account. Thereafter, automatic payments will be taken periodically based on your plan. The first payment will be taken either on the day after any free trial period ends or, where no free trial period applies, on the day you subscribe to Channel 4+.
6.2 You can view details of your account, including the monthly fee, billing information and renewal date, end date of your free trial period (where relevant, see section 5, above), and how to cancel, in the 'Account Settings' area on the Site (www.channel4.com). You can also change your payment method in the 'Account Settings' area on the Site. It is your responsibility to update and maintain the payment method associated with your Channel 4+ Account.
6.3 If a payment is not successfully made because your payment method has expired, you have insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not change your payment method or cancel your Channel 4+ Account, we may cancel your Channel 4+ Account, or suspend your access to the Channel 4+ functionality until we have obtained a valid payment method. When you update your payment method, you authorise us to charge the updated payment method and you remain responsible for any uncollected amounts. This may result in a change to your payment dates or your payment periods. If we have cancelled your Channel 4+ Account, you will have to sign up again.
6.4 We reserve the right to change the date we charge you if your payment method has not been successfully authorised or if that renewal date does not occur in a given month.
6.5 For some payment methods, the relevant issuer may charge you certain fees relating to the processing of your payment method. Local taxes and charges may vary depending on the payment method used. Check with your payment provider for details.
7. Automatic renewal
Access to the Channel 4+ functionality will automatically renew unless you cancel your Channel 4+ account at least 24 hours before your next renewal date. If you do not cancel Channel 4+ at least 24 hours before the end of the current payment period (or free trial period), your access to Channel 4+ will automatically renew. If your access to Channel 4+ automatically renews, you will be charged the total fee due for the next month.
8. Account Price changes
8.1 We may change the price of Channel 4+ from time to time. We may increase our prices:
(a) if the cost to us of providing the Channel 4+ functionality increases (such as when we have to pay third parties more for their content);
(b) we introduce new Channel 4 Content;
(c) we change the way we structure the Site or App;
(d) we invest in improving our customer support; and/or
(e) other costs associated with running Channel 4+ increase.
8.2 In addition, we provide our Channel 4+ functionality on an on-going basis and we cannot foresee what may change in the future. This means we may increase our prices for reasons other than those set out above.
8.3 We will give you no less than 30 days' notice of any price increase.
8.4 If we notify you of a price change and you do not want to continue to use the Channel 4+ functionality at the new price, you can cancel your Channel 4+ Account either: (i) before the start of the next payment period by following the steps in section 9 below; or (ii) at any time before the price change becomes effective by providing us with notice at the details set out in section 26, below.
9. How do I cancel Channel 4+?
9.1 You can cancel Channel 4+ at least 24 hours before the end of the current payment period (or free trial period) and the cancellation will be effective at the end of the current paid period (or free trial period). This means that if you are part of the way through a paid period, you will be able to continue to use your Channel 4+ functionality until the end of the current paid period.
9.2 To cancel your Channel 4+ Account, go to the 'Account Settings' area on the Site.
10. Cooling-off Period
10.1 You can change your mind and cancel Channel 4+, without giving any reason, any time up to 14 days from the date on which you sign up (“Cooling-off Period”). The cancellation form can be found HERE
10.2 If you are exercising your right to change your mind within 14 days of purchasing Channel 4+, we will refund you for the unused paid period from the date you told us you had changed your mind.
11. Refunds and credits
11.1 If you cancel part way through your payment period (either monthly or annually) we will not issue a refund, but you will be able to continue to use the Channel 4+ functionality until the end of the current paid period.
11.2 It is the user’s responsibility to cancel recurring payments and manage individual accounts. In exceptional circumstances, we may refund up to a maximum of three months payments for one viewer account. We do not offer partial refunds for our annual plan.
12. Supported devices and updates
12.1 Availability of Channel 4 Services, the Site, your Channel 4+ functionality and Channel 4 Content depends on the quality of your internet connection and device capabilities. Some features may not be available on all devices or internet browsers. Please visit the FAQs to see a list of supported platforms.
12.2 To get the best Channel 4+ experience, we recommend that you accept any updates to your device, personal computer and internet browser as and when they become available.
12.3 Your use of any updates, modifications to, or replacement versions of the Site or App will be governed by these Terms & Conditions and any additional terms you agree to when you subscribe to such update, modification, or replacement version (if applicable).
13. Your data usage
You are responsible for all internet access, mobile data or other charges incurred when using the Site or App and your Channel 4+ functionality. Remember that streaming audio-visual content such as videos can use up a lot of data.
14. Changes to Channel 4 and Channel 4 + functionality
14.1 C4 may regularly make changes to the Site or App, your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content. In particular, the availability of Channel 4 Content, and any Channel 4+ functionality in respect of that Channel 4 Content, may change from time to time (for various reasons, such as where relevant third party rights-holders withdraw, restrict or place obligations on our right to use that content on Channel 4+). We therefore have the right to add or withdraw or change Channel 4 Content at any time, with or without notice. You acknowledge and agree that the Channel 4 Content is variable and will change from time to time without notice. There may also be times when C4 has to add or remove certain features or functionality and/or stop allowing certain devices or browsers from being able to access Channel 4+. C4 may also update or upgrade the Site or App from time to time.
14.2 If changes to the Site or App are likely to materially adversely affect Channel 4+, we will try to make sure that any changes will not adversely affect you during your current paid period so you have the chance to cancel your Channel 4+ functionality before the next paid period begins by following the steps in section 9, above. If we have to make a materially adverse change to the Site or App or the Channel 4+ functionality, we will give you 30 days’ notice and the right to cancel. If you do not cancel your Channel 4+ Account after we have notified you about any changes and before these changes take place, we will take that as your acceptance of the changes.
15. Ownership
15.1 Channel 4 Content is protected by copyright, trademark, and/or other proprietary intellectual property rights owned by or licensed to us.
15.2 You have no intellectual property rights in, or to, Channel 4+, the Site, Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content other than the right to use them in accordance with these Terms & Conditions and the Channel 4 Terms of Use.
15.3 You may not remove, alter or in any way tamper with any copyright notices or other proprietary markings included on Channel 4+, in the Site, App or any Channel 4 Content. Any copying, access, transfer, public performance or communication to the public or other use of Channel 4+, the Site, App, the Channel 4 Content or Channel 4+ functionality other than as expressly authorised by your local law or these Terms & Conditions shall constitute an infringement of applicable intellectual property rights and a breach of these Terms & Conditions. In the event of such infringement, we, or one of our affiliated companies, may, without notice or prior intervention of a court or arbitral body, block your access to Channel 4+ and terminate any Channel 4+ Account you may have and pursue any rights or remedies available to us.
16. Your use of Channel 4+
16.1 You confirm that:
(a) any information and details provided by you to us, including on registration of a Channel 4+ Account, are true, accurate and up to date in all respects and at all times;
(b) you will at all times comply with these Terms & Conditions; and
(c) you will not use the Site or App for any unlawful purpose or in a way which infringes the rights of anyone else.
16.2 You must use Channel 4+ in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, and any other restrictions on your use of Channel 4, the Site or App, your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content.
16.3 You must not transmit any material that is defamatory, offensive or otherwise objectionable in relation to your use of Channel 4+, the Site or App, your Channel 4+ functionality or Channel 4 Content.
16.4 Channel 4+ including all Channel 4 Content are licensed to you (not sold) for your personal and non-commercial use only. While you are using Channel 4+, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, licence to access and stream Channel 4 Content to which the Channel 4+ functionality applies, not including our “Live TV” live streaming service. Except for the limited licence granted to you in these Terms & Conditions, no right, title or interest in our Channel 4 Services or any Channel 4 Content shall be transferred to you. You must not reproduce, perform, display or exhibit Channel 4 Services, the Site, App, your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content in any public place.
16.5 You must not, and must not allow third parties to:
(a) access, view and/or purchase your Channel 4+ functionality or Channel 4 Content using a virtual proxy network;
(b) display, perform, publish, licence, offer for sale, make and/or distribute copies of Channel 4+, the Site, App, your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content;
(c) attempt to copy, reproduce, alter, modify, reverse engineer, disassemble, decompile, transfer, exchange or translate Channel 4+, the Site, App, your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content except as permitted by applicable law;
(d) create derivative works of Channel 4+, the Site, App your Channel 4+ functionality or the Channel 4 Content of any kind whatsoever; or
(e) circumvent, remove, alter, deactivate, degrade or thwart any of the content protections on Channel 4+, in the Site or App or the Channel 4 Content.

18. Ending your right to use Channel 4+
18.1 We may end your right to use all or any part of the Channel 4+ functionality, the Channel 4 Content and the Site or App immediately if we have a reasonable belief that you have breached these Terms & Conditions or if you are using the Site or App, the Channel 4 Content or your Channel 4+ functionality in any manner other than for its intended purpose, or illegally. If what you have done can be put right we may give you a reasonable opportunity to do so.
18.2 If we decide to discontinue Channel 4+ for any reason, we will aim to give you at least 30 days’ prior notice. In no event will we be liable in any way for the discontinuation of Channel 4+, the removal of or disabling of access to Channel 4+ or the Site or App or for the withdrawal of any Channel 4 Content.
18.3 If we end your rights to use Channel 4+ you must stop all activities authorised by these Terms & Conditions, including your use of your Channel 4+ functionality.
19. Our liability to you
19.1 We accept liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or that of our employees and agents. We do not seek to exclude liability for fraudulent misrepresentation by us or our employees or agents.
19.2 If we breach these Terms & Conditions we will only be liable for losses which are a reasonably foreseeable consequence of that breach. Losses are foreseeable where they could be contemplated by you and us at the time of you agreeing to these Terms & Conditions.
19.3 We are not responsible for:
(a) any use of Channel 4+, the Site, App or Channel 4 Content which isn’t authorised by us under these Terms & Conditions;
(b) any malfunction or interruption to Channel 4+, the Site, App or Channel 4 Content due to unforeseeable circumstances that prevent us from fulfilling our obligations to you;
(c) errors, viruses or bugs present in or arising from your use of Channel 4+, the Site, App or Channel 4 Content;
(d) incompatibility of Channel 4+, the Site, App or Channel 4 Content with any unsupported software or hardware (including any of your devices); and
(e) any act or default of any third party platform, supplier, device manufacturer or provider of a device operating system, which are beyond our reasonable control.
19.4 You have certain statutory rights under the applicable laws of the United Kingdom. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to affect these statutory rights.
19.5 Apart from liability arising in respect of the circumstances set out in section 19.1 (which is unlimited), to the fullest extent permitted under English law, in no event shall our total liability to you for all damages arising from your use of Channel 4 Services, the Site, App or the Channel 4 Content or your Channel 4+ functionality, exceed the amount you have paid for Channel 4+ in the previous six month period preceding your bringing a claim.
19.6 We can't guarantee that Channel 4+, the Site, App or the Channel 4 Content will be free from bugs or errors or that your access will be free from interruptions (for example there may be downtime for maintenance or updates or any power or server outages or other reasons outside our control).
19.7 Please note that we are not responsible for any lack of functionality or failure to provide any part of Channel 4+, the Site, App or the Channel 4 Content, or any loss of content or data that is due to: your equipment, devices, operating system or internet connection, your failure to download the most recent app or the Site, App or meet the compatibility requirements or the consequences of you changing your equipment, device, operating system or internet connection.
20. Changes to these Terms & Conditions
20.1 We have the right to, from time to time, change these Terms & Conditions to clarify them, for legal or security reasons or to reflect changes to our business, services or commercial priorities.
20.2 We will aim to notify you at least 30 days before making any material changes to these Terms & Conditions, unless the changes need to be implemented quickly for security, legal, regulatory or rights reasons in which case we will notify you of the changes as soon as we can.
20.3 If we reasonably consider that any change to these Terms & Conditions will materially disadvantage you, or materially reduce the availability of the Site, App, we will provide you with at least 30 days’ notice before the changes become effective and you can choose to cancel your Channel 4+ Account before the changes become effective (see section 9).
20.4 If you continue to use Channel 4+ following any change to these Terms & Conditions, we will take this as your acceptance of the amended Terms & Conditions. The most up to date Terms & Conditions will always be available on the Site or App. You should review these Terms & Conditions regularly to check whether they have been changed or updated.
21. Transfer of rights
The agreement between us and you is personal to you and no third party is entitled to benefit under it. You agree we can transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms & Conditions to any company, firm or person, provided that your Channel 4+ functionality will not be adversely affected as a result of such transfer. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms & Conditions to anyone else.
22. Governing law
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts in the event of a dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms & Conditions.
23. What if I have a complaint?
23.1 About our programmes
If you wish to comment on one of our programmes, you can contact us via the 4Viewers website.
Please note that Channel 4+ constitutes part of our Channel 4 on demand programme service. Channel 4 is regulated directly by Ofcom. Ofcom is the designated regulator for editorial content of UK video on demand services that fall within the statutory definition of On Demand Programme Services ("ODPS"). Channel 4 complies with Ofcom’s rules for ODPS. 23.2 About breach of copyright
If you see any content which appears on Channel 4+ which you consider to infringe your copyright, please let us know by using the Contact Form When you notify us about a copyright infringement you will need to:
(a) provide your contact details;
(b) identify the infringing content; and
(c) confirm that you own the copyright in the content and that its publication has not been authorised by you.
Following receipt of this notification, we will consider whether the content ought to be taken down.
24. Communications
We will send you information relating to your Channel 4+ Account and your Channel 4+ functionality (e.g. payment authorisations, invoices, changes in password or payment method, confirmation messages, content and feature updates and other service or transactional messages) by email to the email address you provide during sign up.
25. Promotions and Offers
(a) Channel 4 may make a variety of promotional offers available from time to time;
(b) such offers will be subject to their own terms, including eligibility, which will apply in addition to these Terms of Use;
(c) discounts only available on subscriptions purchased via the UK App Store;
(d) promotional offers with specific lock-in periods will override early cancellations to ensure Channel 4+ functionality continues until the next payment due date;
(e) promotional offers are limited to availability and served on a first come, first serve basis.
